Martin W. Huff studied law with additional training in economics at the University of Bayreuth (commercial lawyer [Univ. Bayreuth]), from 1982 to 1985 he was a research assistant at the Chair of Criminal Law (Professor Dr. Dr. Harro Otto), in 1985 he passed the Second State Examination in Law in Bavaria.
Martin W. Huff has been an admitted lawyer since the beginning of 1986 and joined the law firm LLR in 2014 - in addition to his activity as managing director of the Cologne Bar Association.
From 1985 to the end of 1990 he was editor of the "Neue Juristische Wochenschrift - NJW", then editor-in-chief of the "Europäische Zeitschrift für Wirtschaftsrecht - EuZW".
From 1991 to April 1999 he worked as a member of the economic editorial staff of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. He was responsible for reporting on legal issues, the credit card and hospital industry. From 1997 in particular, he reported on the legal market and was awarded the Press Prize of the German Bar Association in 1999.
From April 1999 to April 2001, he moved to the Hessian Ministry of Justice (Ministerialrat) in Wiesbaden as press spokesman and was also responsible for fundamental issues of the training and further education of judges and public prosecutors.
In May 2001 he returned to the publishing house C.H.Beck oHG as one of the two authorized signatories and editor-in-chief (among others of the "Neue Juristische Wochenschrift") of the Frankfurter Zeitschriftenschriftenredaktion of the Beck publishing house.
From June 2003 to the end of February 2007, he was a deputy member of the Hessian State Court.
From 1 February 2006 to 30 September 2008, he was responsible for corporate communications (member of the management board) at the media group Wolters Kluwer Deutschland GmbH (e.g. publishers Heymanns, Luchterhand and Werner) and, as editor-in-chief of the Recht publishing group, was responsible for 44 magazines and other projects.
Since October 1, 2008, he has been Managing Director of the Cologne Bar Association (from March 2006 to September 2008, he was a member of the Chamber's Executive Board), responsible, among other things, for licensing issues, the budget, public relations and legal training.
Martin W. Huff advises and represents in particular freelancers (lawyers, doctors, pharmacists, architects, etc.) in matters of professional law, in particular also in disputes with the German Pension Insurance Association and the professional chambers.
He advises companies and members of the liberal professions on questions of public relations, media law including marketing.
Huff has published numerous legal and other specialist articles and regularly gives lectures and moderates specialist events. He is co-editor of the "Zeitschrift für die Anwaltspraxis - ZAP", published at www.lto.de and answers legal questions in the media.
Martin W. Huff has extensive experience in the training of press officers from the judiciary, law firms and companies.
Huff has also been a press spokesman since 1982 and one of the conference leaders of the German Jurists' Day e.V. and was press spokesman of the 1st European Jurists' Day Nuremberg 2001 and the 4th European Jurists' Day Vienna 2007.
He is a member of the expert panel on law of Stiftung Warentest and a part-time examiner at the Landesjustizprüfungsamt in Düsseldorf.
Since 1989 he has repeatedly held teaching positions at universities of applied sciences, e.g. for media law at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences and the HWTG in Constance, for professional law at the German Graduate School of Management and Law (ggs) in Heilbronn and for legal tech at the Rheinische Fachhochschule in Cologne.
When Martin W. Huff is not working or writing, he is a member of the Ehrengarde der Stadt Köln e.V. and enjoys his second home on Lake Constance. He also likes to swim and drive scooters.
